Significant populations still exist on the Island of Chiloe, along the coast and in the Andes within that range (Izquierdo 1983). There are \"Alerce\" forests in Chile and adjacent Argentina and also in the province of Chubut and in Patagonia (Chudnoff 1993), especially in the coastal mountains of Valdivia and Osorno and in the Andes mountains of Llanquihue and continental Chiloé. It was once an important species on the central plain of Llanquihue (Donoso 1983). May form mixed or pure stands (Izquierdo 1983). Widespread cutting has made this a vulnerable species (Benoit 1989). The species is reported to be decreasing in numbers and is Vulnerable throughout its natural growth range, and could well become Endangered if current trends persist. These trends include over exploitation, extensive destruction of habitat, uncertainty of future security of remaining members (World Conservation Monitoring Center 1992 in Tree Talk 1994). Es una especie muy higrófila, que se desarrolla sobre suelos húmedos, empantanados permanentemente y donde las precipitaciones anuales sobrepasan los 2000 mm. En su limite austral crece entre los 200 hasta 700 m.s.m. (Rodríguez 1983).","grank":"G3","rankInfo":{"elementGlobalId":152089,"aooPercentGood":null,"enviromentalSpecificity":null,"intrinsicVulnerability":null,"longTermTrend":null,"numberEos":null,"numberGoodEos":null,"numberProtEos":null,"popSize":null,"rangeExtent":null,"shortTermTrend":null,"threatImpactAssigned":null,"rangeExtentComments":"There are \"Alerce\" forests in Chile and adjacent Argentina and also in the province of Chubut in Patagonia (Chudnoff 1993), especially in the coastal mountains of Valdivia and Osorno and in the Andes mountains of Llanquihue and continental Chiloé. Por ser liviana se utiliza para forros de embaraciones, bateas, barriles, puertas, ventanas, instrumentos musicales (guitarras, violines, tapas de piano), mueblería fina, chapas, lápices, cajas finas para envases, etcétera. Also used for joinery and cooperage (Brown 1978) and in airplanes, aqueducts and tunnels (Izquierdo 1983). The inner bark called 'estopa de alerce' is harvested and torn into thin strips. It is then used for caulking boats and ships. The resin is used as incense. The timber is the finest produced in Chile and ranks with the best and most useful in the world. The total consumption is not large, however, owing to the present inaccessibility of most of the alercales (Record and Hess 1943). The wood is highly esteemed for carpentry (Izquierdo 1983), and also esteemed for use in cooperage, joinery and shakes (Tree Talk 1994).","plantProductionMethods":[],"plantDurations":[],"plantEconomicUses":[{"plantCagEconomicUseId":100987,"economicUse":{"id":21,"economicUseDescEn":"FIBER","economicUseDescEs":"FIBRA","economicUseDescFr":"FIBRE","displayOrder":21}},{"plantCagEconomicUseId":100988,"economicUse":{"id":22,"economicUseDescEn":"Building materials/timber","economicUseDescEs":"Materiales de construcción/madera de construcción","economicUseDescFr":"Matériaux de construction/bois d’œuvre","displayOrder":22}},{"plantCagEconomicUseId":100989,"economicUse":{"id":45,"economicUseDescEn":"OTHER USES/PRODUCTS","economicUseDescEs":"OTROS USOS/PRODUCTOS","economicUseDescFr":"AUTRES UTILISATIONS/PRODUITS","displayOrder":46}}],"plantCommercialImportances":[]},"elementManagement":{"elementGlobalId":152089,"eoManagementGroupName":null,"stewardshipOverview":null,"impacts":null,"restorationPotential":null,"siteConservationPlansConsidered":null,"managementMethods":null,"monitoringMethods":null,"managementProgramContacts":null,"monitoringProgramContacts":null,"managementResearchPrograms":null,"managementResearchNeeds":null,"biologicalResearchNeeds":null,"additionalTopics":null},"occurrenceViabilities":[{"eoRankSpecsDetailId":151768,"eoRankSpecsGroupName":null,"locationUseClass":null,"excellentViability":null,"goodViability":null,"fairViability":null,"poorViability":null,"viabilityJustification":"Use the Generic Guidelines for the Application of Occurrence Ranks (2008).<br>The Key for Ranking Species Occurrences Using the Generic Approach provides a step-wise process for implementing this method.","versionDate":null,"versionAuthor":null,"versionNotes":null,"lastModified":"2020-05-14T04:25:53.006334Z"}],"references":[{"id":121221,"citation":"Benoit, I.
