The Bryologist 80(3): 405-428.","conceptName":"<i>Metzgeria furcata</i>","taxonomicComments":"This is the record for the broad concept of <i>Metzgeria furcata</i> that occurs in North America following Schuster (1992) and Bakalin (2019). <b> </b>In contrast, Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (2017) exclude most of <i>Metzgeria furcata</i> from North America (except Vermont populations of <i>M. furcata </i>var. <i>furcata</i>) and recognize <i>Metzgeria </i><i>setigera</i> in a broad sense, following Fuselier et al. (2009) and Söderström et al. (2015). Fuselier et al. (2009) found that the species <i>M. furcata </i>includes two distinct molecular clades. Söderström et al. (2015) recognized <i>Metzgeria </i><i>setigera</i> for the clade including most North American material that had so far been called <i>M.
