Overview

NatureServe Explorer now includes photographic images of selected species. Images of more than 1,700 plants and animals are currently available (see full list).). Over time we will be acquiring additional images for thousands of species, with a focus on imperiled species and on complete coverage of entire groups of animals and plants.

Species with images available directly from our database now display a camera icon on the Results page. For all other species, a direct link to the Google image search feature is provided on the Comprehensive Report.

The images displayed on NatureServe Explorer are provided by trusted sources with extensive expertise in the relevant groups. However, NatureServe has not independently verified the identification of the species in each image. If you have a comment about the identification of a particular species, please use the Contact Us form.

Guidelines for Use of the Images
