Setting user preferences

Index | Back | Forward

You can set the number of records and the number of columns that will appear on each results page. From any NatureServe Explorer search page, click the arrow to the right of Site Index, then scroll and click on User preferences. These must be set on a search page. If you set user preferences when you are already on a Results page, you will not see a change in the display until you complete a new search.

  • Choose a number of records to display in one page.

  • Choose List or Detail for the amount of information displayed for each record:

List will display three columns. For plant and animal searches and for ecological community searches, the columns are Browse (Unique ID), Scientific Name/Common Name, and Choose a Report. For more information see below.

Detail will list five columns.

The results page for a species search with five columns:

Browse (Unique ID)

indicates whether the record has been selected and provides the Natural Heritage Network ID for the plant or animal. When the results first appear, all records will be have a check in this column. To shorten your list of records, click Deselect All at the top or bottom of the table. Then, click each record you want to keep, and click Show Selected Only to create a list of records with only those you chose from the original results.
